- The Gills record in Round 1 of the League Cup stands at 39 wins and 37 draws (15 draws). Away at same-division opposition in Round 1, the Gills have won 5 and lost 8 (1 draw).
- The Gills have progressed from Round 1 in the last 2 seasons and also the last 2 seasons when they last met same division opposition in the round (2016/7 and 2014/5 with both leading to Premier League opposition in Round 2). The Gills reached Round 2 in 6 of the last 10 seasons.
- The Gills travel to AFC Wimbledon for the second time in 3 games and for the 3rd time in a little under a year. The Gills have lost 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4 visits since their last victory there in March 2019.
- The Gills have drawn 3 of their last 4 Round 1 matches in the Carabao cup. 2 games were lost and 1 was won by the subsequent penalty shootouts.

(19.44) Kick Off [ 5 - 3 - 2 ]

(19.51) Williams carves apart the AFC Wimbledon defence, finds Walker who guides a shot past Nathan Broome from 15 yards, but also the right hand post.

(20.32) Half time 0-0

(20.49) The second half kicks off.

(21.04) Tutonda goes down inside the box. It looks like a penalty but the referee doesn't give nor does he book the Gills man for simulation.

(21.09) Turner in the Gills goal produces a fine save to prevent the hosts from taking the lead only to see the offside flag go up anyway.

(21.14) Reeves goes in strongly and appears to have kicked out at a Wimbledon player. Many players get involved and Reeves is lucky to only get a yellow.

(21.21) Somehow the Gills clear after Wimbledon look certain to score.

(21.24) Mandron puts the ball in the back of the net. After much celebrations, play is brought back for a free kick due to an offside.
