- The Gills start their campaign in Tier 4 of the Football League, their 21st season in the division. They have spent 46 of their 90 seasons in the bottom tier of what either is now League 2 or Division 3 South (equal tier 3). They have previously competed at tier 4 in 4 of the last 26 seasons.
- The Gills have never played a competitive fixture in July before let alone started the season this month. They have not lost the opening day of the season in the last 7 seasons and have lost just 2 of the last 14.
- After securing the title against today's opponents AFC Wimbledon, the Gills' last League 2 fixture came back in April 2013 where they lost away at Burton. That defeat was the 237th from the 509 away games played in League 2/Division 3. Their away win percentage in the division stands at 24.4%.
- Since the draw to secure the League 2 title in 2013, the Gills have only beaten AFC Wimbledon twice in the 12 meetings and lost 5 of them. Their last away victory at Wimbledon came in March 2019 - a 4-2 win at the old Kingsmeadow.
- AFC Wimbledon are winless in all competitions from their last 28 matches. They last won a home league match 31 games ago, a 3-2 win over Crewe, just 1 of 2 home wins last season. 2 wins in 25 home league games followed 3 successive home wins at the end of 2020/21.

Temps in the low 80's ,I am off to play golf, can't stand this, and yes I know it's the first game of the season. It just seems like here we go again, 77 minutes in , ONE shot on goal, maybe if I leave they will score a couple and tie things up , have great weekend everyone.
