[ 5 Feb 22 ] Ipswich Town v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Sat Jan 22, 2022 6:25 pm

- There have been 28 meetings between the Gills and Ipswich. The hosts have won 14 and the Gills have only won 3. They last won at Portman Road in November 2003 - a 4-3 victory.
- The Gills have only won 1 of the last 11 meetings with Ipswich. That win came recently during a 9 game spell in which the Gills failed to score in 8 of the games. Those 9 games registered 3 Gills goals (in a 3-1 win back in March) and 15 goals for Ipswich.
- After 6 games without a win in all competitions, Ipswich have won 4 of the 6 since. The other 2 have ended in defeat, 2 of 4 defeats all on the road since they last lost at home (to Rotherham in November) 6 home games ago.
- The Gills' and Ipswich's league games often see a flurry of late goals. The Gills have conceded the most goals in the last 10 minutes (15) whilst Ipswich have conceded the joint 3rd highest (9).

(15.02) Kick Off [ 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 ]

(15.15) Piggott heads an effort over the bar from just a few yards from goal.

(15.22) The Gills have been under constant pressure but Lloyd finds himself in the box. He looks to line up a shot and appears to be tripped but play is brought back for a handball against him.

(15.34) Ben Thompson receives the ball 30 yards out, takes a couple of touches, advances, and fires a shot just wide of the right post.

(15.48) Half time 0-0

(16.05) The second half begins.

(16.07) Oliver brings the ball down off his chest and shoots at goal only for the ball to crash off the crossbar.

(16.10) Gills increasing the pressure. Thompson does a clever back header for McKenzie, his ball across goal is just a yard ahead of Oliver.

(16.15) The ball into the box is chested down by Tucker, his drilled shot runs loose for Oliver whose touch gives Lloyd a chance to have a shot which also hits the post.

(16.21) Lloyd goes down and is stretchered off after a lengthy stoppage.

(16.28) The play resumes. A minute later, superb play by Thompson plays in Oliver which needs a great last resort defending to stop him scoring.
