[ 23 Nov 21 ] GILLS v Cheltenham Town Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Tue Nov 16, 2021 9:37 pm

- Just 3 months into the season this is already the 4th meeting between the Gills and Cheltenham this season and the 3rd fixture at Priestfield in just 92 days.
- There have been 15 meetings between the sides and 7 have been drawn. Cheltenham have only won 3 (excluding their penalties victory earlier this season after a 1-1 draw) but 2 of those have come in the last 5 games between the sides.
- The Gills last home win over Cheltenham came in August 2011, a season when they did the double over today's visitors with 1-0 (home) and 3-0 (away) wins. Since then, the Gills are winless in the 5 games played (3 draws) and have scored just 2 goals.
- Cheltenham haven't won at Priestfield without needing a penalty shootout. In all competitions, there have been 3 Gills wins and 5 draws, 3 of which came in the last 3 ties between the sides.
- Cheltenham are unbeaten in 3 games in League 1 but are winless in their last 4 away league games (losing 4 of them). They have conceded 16 goals in their last 7 away league games including 9 goals from the last 3.

(19.47) Kick Off [ 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 ]
Lee and McKenzie make a welcome return for the Gills whilst Carayol starts.

(19.51) Lee slots the ball in for Akinde who beats the 'keeper but puts the ball just wide of the far post.

(20.04) Cheltenham have a great chance to open the scoring but a good covering run from Tucker and a save from Cumming keep the visitors out.

(20.17) GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Cheltenham Town: Long

(20.31) Lee sends in a scorcher of a pile driver. The 'keeper deals with it but it has such pace that he can only parry it.

(20.33) Lee sends Akinde through again. Again the big man beats the 'keeper, slots the ball underneath him and just wide of the post in front of the Rainham End.

(20.34) Half time 0-1

(20.50) The second half kicks off.

(20.52) A loose ball from Jackson allows Cheltenham acres of space to make it 2 but the shot is hit straight at Cumming.

(21.04) GOAL! Gillingham 0-2 Cheltenham Town: May

(21.06) Lee, on the volley, drives a hard shot towards goal but the 'keeper makes the stop.

(21.21) Akinde and Lee link up again. Lee receives the ball and goes for power across the face of the goal and out for a throw. Akinde was following up but the pace prevented him from getting there.

(21.31) Steve Evans brings on 17 year old Sam Gale for his debut and joins 18 year olds Sithole and Lintott and 16 year old Gbode on the pitch.

(21.39) FULL TIME 0-2
