- The Gills last met Sheffield Wednesday in any competition back in January 2003 and last at Hillsborough in the league in December 2002 (with goals from Rod Wallace and Paul Smith). It was their only win at Hillsborough making it unbeaten in 2 visits following 1 draw and 5 defeats.
- Results between the sides are very even. Sheffield Wednesday have won 7 ties whilst the Gills have won 6. A further 6 meetings were drawn. The Gills are unbeaten in 5 games with the hosts, winning 3 of those 5 including the most recent 2. The last 8 games have seen 5 Gills wins and 1 defeat.
- In all competitions, Sheffield Wednesday started the season with 7 wins and just 3 defeats from their opening 14 games. They have only won 2 of the 7 since however these have come as part of an unbeaten run of 9 games (4 wins, 5 draws).
- Sheffield Wednesday have lost just 1 of their last 13 games in all competitions - a home loss to Oxford. They last lost an away tie at Plymouth back on the 11th of September (a successive away defeat at the time) and have won 2 and drawn 5 of the away games since.
- Rotherham have won 111 corners in League 1, the most in the division, and 11 most corners in a single match. Sheffield Wednesday have won 82, 9 more than the Gills, and won 15 of those against Cheltenham which is the most in a League 1 match this season.
- After failing to score in the second halves of 6 of their opening 8 league games, Sheffield Wednesday have scored goals after half time in all 8 league second halves since (scoring 9 goals). By contrast, the Gills have scored in 5 of the second halves of their 16 league games.
