[ 11 Sep 21 ] Burton v GILLS Match Thread

- Both the Gills and Burton have won 6 of the meetings and just 3 have ended level. The Gills are winless in 4 games with Burton and last won on a visit to Burton in January 2019.
- Following 3 successive defeats at Burton Albion, the Gills have gone unbeaten in the most recent 3 visits (1-1 and 0-0 draws preceded by a 3-2 win).
- Before the Gills met Burton for the first time last season, Albion had won just 2 and lost 13 of their first 22 league games. Burton's win at Priestfield set off a sequence of 13 wins and 6 defeats in the subsequent 24 matches making it 7 defeats in their last 30 league games.
- Burton conceded 42 goals in their 23 home league games last season, the most in the division. This season, they have conceded 2 in their 3 home games and kept 3 clean sheets in their 6 games.
- The Gills have only scored 2 second half league goals and Burton have only conceded 3. All 3 of those conceded by Burton came in a single match.

(15.14) Carayol goes on a powerful run which causes the defence huge problems and requires a good save to prevent the goal.

(15.18) GOAL! Burton Albion 0-1 Gillingham: Oliver
In the 2021/2 and 2020/1 seasons, Burton have won none of the 15 home games in which they conceded the first goal. The season before saw just 1 win from the 8 games when the opener was conceded.

(15.26) Carayol has a great chance to make it 2 but sends the ball wide of the right hand post just before Hemmings forces a great save from Cummings.

(15.36) Dempsey puts in a strong challenge in midfield and immediately sets Carayol off on an attack. Carayol then tears the defence open but Dempsey curls an effort wide.

(15.37) Burton have muted appeals for a penalty turned down.

(15.41) A powerful shot from the hosts is palmed away and the rebound sent high over the bar.

(15.43) Dempsey plays in Kelman this time but is shot is just centimetres wide of goal. Kelman then sees a strong shot pushed away.

(16.05) The second half kicks off.

(16.06) GOAL! Burton Albion 1-1 Gillingham: Hemmings

(16.22) Carayol looked certain to score after yet another powerful drive but his shot deflects off the 'keepers legs for a corner.

(16.25) Carayol is tearing Burton apart from the wide positions as gets in another shot.

(16.39) MacDonald sends in a great cross for Oliver but Burton get in a vital clearance. Carayol sends it back in and the 'keeper gathers.

(16.42) Oliver gets a head to the ball after beating the 'keeper to the ball but it trickles wide.

(16.49) Burton have been under kosh most of the match but Jebbison finds himself through and certain to score but Cumming makes a superb stop.

(16.53) Seconds after Lloyd comes on, he tests the 'keeper and the ball falls to Carayol who wins a corner. From that, O'Keefe blazes a shot narrowly over the bar.
