[ 24 Oct 20 ] Gills v Fleetwood Match Thread

- Fleetwood just edge the results between the sides. They have won 5, the Gills have won and there have been 4 draws. The last Fleetwood victory came in April 2017 - a 3-2 win at Priestfield.
- The Gills beat Fleetwood 5-1 in September 2015 before the visitors won the next 3 meetings. Since then, the Gills are unbeaten in 5, winning the next 3 games and drawing the most recent two 1-1.
- The Gills have scored against Fleetwood in every season apart from the 2014/15 season when they lost both fixtures 1-0. Fleetwood have also failed to score twice against the Gills with both coming in the last 5 meetings.
- Fleetwood have won 2 of their last 8 matches in all competitions which included 4 straight defeats. These followed 4 straight wins at the start of the season. They have lost all 3 of their league matches on the road.
- Fleetwood have won 6 games this season whilst the Gills have won 5. 4 and 2 of those respectively have come in cup games meaning that the 11 wins combined consist of just 5 league victories between them.

13.00 Kick Off [ 4 - 3 - 3 ]

13.17
A Fleetwood free kick from just inside the Gills half is allowed to bounce, wind assisted, into the penalty area and through to Bonham but any touch could have diverted it into an empty net.

13.18
Fleetwood looked certain to tuck the ball to Bonham's left but Medley provides a vital block.

13.25
A Fleetwood corner evades the Gills defence and Bonham but he is able to grab the loose ball at the last attempt.

13.30
A good strike from Samuel across the face of the goal is just tipped wide of the post for a corner. The best chance of the match.

13.31
John Akinde strikes the post with the Gills next attack.

13.40
Graham works some space on the right and crosses the perfect ball into the box. Samuel is ready and gets his head on the ball but it flies over the bar when he should have been able to get it on target and open the scoring.

13.43
The wind takes the ball away from Fleetwood defenders and Gills attackers in the penalty area. The ball falls to Medley who smashes it straight at the Fleetwood 'keeper who makes a point blank save.

13.46
Akinde's turn to get a point blank save from the 'keeper who parries the ball which is cleared just before any follow up can be tucked away.

13.47
A Fleetwood shot from outside of the penalty area flies towards goal but the wind carries it just wide of the top right corner of the goal.

13.48 Half time (48:02)

14.04
The second half kicks off.

14.07
Samuel goes down inside the box but no penalty is given. Fleetwood break down the other end and a similar coming together sees Tucker concede a free kick just outside the box.

14.11
The Fleetwood 'keeper makes a mess of a block, chases after the ball and leaves himself wide of goal. The ball is tapped around the box and eventually falls to MacDonald who crashes a shot off the bar.

14.25
GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Fleetwood: Madden
Fleetwood score after the ball comes off the face of the crossbar completely against the run of play. Gills guilty of not taking their chances.

14.39
A Graham corner falls onto the head of Medley 3 yards out. Unchallenged, he heads high over the bar.

14.41
Red Card! Connor Ogilvie receives a second yellow card and is sent off.

14.46
A Tucker free kick from inside his own half hangs high in the air. Again, the Fleetwood 'keeper makes a hash of a clearance, goes to ground but the Gills cannot find a way through the Town defence.

14.51
GOAL! Gillingham 0-2 Fleetwood: Evans

14.57 FULL TIME 0-2 (100:47)

That was a good game to watch. Luck is not on our side of late and we should have been 3-0 up by the time they scored their first goal. But, we are going to lose games if we don't take our chances and we are creating fewer chances, I believe, by playing 3 in midfield. I know he wants Graham further forward but he has stopped scoring from there! His biggest threat is taking on fullbacks and getting in dangerous crosses.

Seems we shot ourselves in the foot time and time again, at least we got some shots off AT THE GOAL and had a decent amount of possession, I have a feeling if we had a crowd there we would be doing better, OH BOYS, quick note here , PLAY UNTIL YOU HEAR THE WHISTLE, your not the Ref, he makes the calls not you. Go GILLS.
