[ 3 Sep 19 ] GILLS v Colchester Match Thread (FLT-A1)

Postby Garawa » Mon Sep 02, 2019 12:29 pm

- The Gills last met Colchester in October 2017, also in this competition, and ran out 1-0 winners away from home. The Gills have won the last 2 meetings 1-0 and have won 3 (and lost 1) of the last 6.
- The results between the sides are very close. A Colchester win would see them level the wins in all competition in the Football League era with 29 each and a further 26 ended as draws.
- This is only the third home tie against Colchester in 8 meetings. The last 3 at Priestfield have seen 1 win each, Colchester's last win here coming in August 2013.
- In Football League trophy games played at Priestfield, the Gills have won their last 3 - Crawley (2-1), Reading U23s (7-5) and Southend (2-1). They have won 4 of the last 6 and lost once (Luton, 1-2).
- The various guises of the competition since 1981 have seen the Gills secure 15 wins, 13 draws and suffer 13 defeats in designated home games.

It is. It's the Football League trophy and we are in Group 1. Tonight is the first match in the group. I dread to think what the crowd will be given that barely 5,000 made it on Saturday to a game we were likely to win big and the opposition brought almost 800 fans to! Our U21/U23 side is Tottenham again this season.

Another great result for the Gills, did we play first team players or mainly reserves and the second eleven. Out of interest what was the attendance do you know ?

Sometimes I wonder who writes the game reports on the Gills website, they say Gillingham lost 1-3 to Colchester Tuesday night,or is it Mr.garawa that got the score wrong saying it was 2-3, hhmmm, I wonder, lol.

Disappointing to lose, but I do feel we’re not keen on this competition in its current format.B Teams have ruined what was once a decent competition for lower league Teams.
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).

Kent_UckyFriedGills,KFG for short.
