- This is the third consecutive season that the Gills start their campaign on the road. They have won 2 and drawn 1 of their previous 3 opening matches and, in the last 10 seasons, have won 5 and lost just 2.
- The Gills lead the wins over Doncaster 32 to 13 (18 draws) but haven't won in the last 5 meetings.
- The Gills last 3 visits to Doncaster have all ended in draws (3-3, 0-0 and 2-2) and the away game before that saw them win 2-1. Doncaster's last home win against the Gills came in March 2008.
- The Gills conceded 3 goals in both games against Doncaster last season after keeping 3 clean sheets in 4 games against them.
- Last season, Doncaster lost just 1 of their final 15 home league games. The defeat against Accrington in April was followed by a win over Coventry before a home play-off defeat to Charlton.
- Doncaster made the play-offs last season despite ending it with 5 wins from their last 15 regular league matches. The Gills won 6 games from their final 15.

A new season, under a new manager.A tough start against Doncaster, but there is no reason why we can’t go up there and get a result.Wouldn’t mind a draw.

A point there would be great, THREEE or THREE would be even graterer. To this day I will never forget finding a UK newspaper on the ground in The Far East and the Back Page in huge letters read GILLINGHAM 5-0 Preston North End. Talk about sobering up quickly, I assumed we had been promoted over the three or four yeas to Division One ,( Premiership as it is now called, )and I was the happiest guy in Bangkok or where ever the hell I was that day.
Even finding out later it was the Championship Division didn't matter, we were there playing the big boys like Manchester City, Wolves, WBA.
I honestly think we could be in about the same position we were back in 2000-2001, has S E signed Onuora and King yet , lol

Really ? Couldn't hold a lead , conceded in the last minute of the half. Sounds like same old , same old to me. Let's review after 10 games before a rush to judgement.

I agree 100%, bunch of losers just like that lot from Manchester City, went 1 nil up after 12 minutes against Liverpool and could not hold on to the lead, they will never win anything, bunch of bums. Time we all started supporting Millwall or Charlton don't you think ??

Well, neither of us was at the game of course and it might be that the mighty Doncaster Rovers can be compared to Liverpool as opposition. What seem more likely, reading the match reports, is that this was a largely unremarkable first game of the season from which it might be unwise to claim a new dawn of Gillingham success.
Let's give it ten games shall we ?
At least neither our manager or our chairman got arrested.

Well both Gillingham and Doncaster are in the same division ,and I kind of still believe that Manchester City and Liverpool are kind of like in the same sort of division ,so yeah I think you can compare the two.
I am starting to think there are people that want to see Gillingham Football Club do badly this season, bit like saying you hope England goes down the tube because you have Boris as the new PM. and you don't like him.

A decent point to start with.Frustrating for Doncaster to score right on half time, after we could have been two goals up,With them the stronger side in the second half I’ll take the point even more.

It was you that made the comparison, not me . Oh yes and then of course Man City have won the odd trophy over the last few seasons whereas we have won nothing. Just a couple of facts to help highlight the value of your post.

I listened to the game and there was virtually nothing from us in the second half after a first half where we had a few good chances. He started with Hanlan, Ndjoli and Jakubiak yet played with a lone striker so there was a degree of confusion there. What looked like a very attacking 4-3-3 was a more ineffective 4-2-3-1. I like playing forwards as wide attackers but they have to be able to run at defenders, they cannot be goal-poachers. I think the players wasn't sure what they were required to do. Perhaps Evans sitting in the stand didn't help.

A decent point away from home in the end but some work to do with players needing to know where they will be playing. I agree with leaving it until 10 games as I never make make my mind up on how it going until then - good or bad.
