[ 6 Oct 18 ] Portsmouth v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Sat Sep 29, 2018 4:09 pm

- Portsmouth lead the wins 19 to 7 and there have been 7 draws. Both sides have won 2 of the last 4 meetings - 1 at home and 1 away.
- The Gill's 3-1 win on their league visit to Fratton park last season was their only win there in 13 league trips and 17 in all competitions.
- Portsmouth have kept clean sheets in 4 of the last 6 home games with the Gills. 3 have come in the last 4 games, the other being the Gills' 3-1 win.
- Portsmouth have won 10 of their last 14 matches in all competitions and are unbeaten in the league this season. 2 of their 3 draws have come in their last 2 home games (Shrewsbury and Wycombe).
- Portsmouth and Peterborough have scored the most 2nd half goals this season (15). Only 5 other League 1 sides managed more goals from the whole of their 90 minutes.
- Before kick-off, Portsmouth had given away 182 fouls (an average of 16.5 per game), 47 more than the Gills.

14.59 Kick Off [ 4 - 1 - 3 -2 ]

15.26
GOAL! Portsmouth 0-1 Gillingham: Eaves
The Gills score 1st for the 4th time in the league. 3 have come in away games, the previous 2 saw a win and a draw. Portsmouth are unbeaten in 3 when conceding first, drawing both games at home.

15.46
GOAL! Portsmouth 0-2 Gillingham: Lacey

15.47 Half time 0-2
Portsmouth have only been behind at half time once in the league this season. That game ended in a home draw. The Gills have won their last 4 away when leading 2-0.

16.03
The second half kicks off.

16.12
Hanlan's inexperience/excitement sees him caught offside when through on goal with the Gills 3 on 2. Check his run and it's a Gills 3rd.

16.44
Portsmouth pile on the pressure. The Gills defence are throwing bodies on the line to keep the score at 2-0.

16.52 FULL-TIME 2-0
The Gills bring to an end a run of 10 games without a win and 9 games without a clean sheet. 1 more for both would have matched a run from back in February 2017.

Lacey's goal was pretty special. Eaves's was a goal of the season contender. Worth a watch when I post the YouTube link later!

What a win.The ultimate coupon buster.Portsmouth top of the league, and us no win in 10-11 games.I guess it was typical Gills again to turn up and win when no one expects it.What a goal from Eaves.Even sky were saying it was world class. Then Lacey grabbed the second right on halftime. The second half sounded backs to the wall, but every player defended the shirt brilliantly. That kind of performance and win will hopefully be the springboard to more.
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).
