[ 20 Aug 16 ] Scunthorpe v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Wed Aug 17, 2016 1:43 pm

The Gills last won at Scunthorpe in November 1999 (4-1) but have drawn 2 and lost 2 since. This is only the 40th tie overall, United lead the wins 14 to 11.

From the end of last season into the start of this Scunthorpe are unbeaten in 9 league games, winning 8 and drawing 1 of them.

Scunthorpe were 1 of just 4 sides (in a total of 4 games) to have scored 6 or more goals in a game - a 6-0 home win against Swindon.

Scunthorpe lost 3 consecutive home games last season (0-2 Bradford, 0-4 Peterborough and 0-1 Sheff Utd) before going unbeaten in their most recent 13 (8 wins).

Gillingham v Scuny.

Postby gillsfan1066 » Thu Aug 18, 2016 12:03 pm

No one cares it seems, sssooo, ....... Gillingham go to Scuny this week to face the Boys of " British Steel " in what would seem to be the first real test of the young season, against a a team with the same record as the mighty Gills.
So what will happen ?
Home Win .........+120

Draw ...............+200

Away Win.........+ 250

Seems the experts see a home win in the cards, but I think if we could come out of this one with a point and no injury's then it would be a good result, a win would be great and put us in the mood to go and thump Watford in another away game. Go Gills.

The first of a few away games to end August. This should be our toughest test so far against a decent side. They finished the season on a high, and have started well like us.Last season up there we got battered, but some how left with a 0-0 draw.I would take a point again, but a win would be brilliant.

I think Gillingham will line up as follows.......................

------------------------------------Nelson---------------------------------------
Jackson--------------Pask---------------------Ehmer--------------------Konchesky
------------------------------------Wright-----------------------------------------
---------------------Byrne---------------------Osadebe---------------------------
-------------------------------------Knott-------------------------------------------
---------------------Donnelly-----------------Emmanuel-Thomas-----------------

Subs: Hadler (GK), Oshilaja, Oldaker, Hessenthaler, O'Hara, McDonald, List

The only change I can see happening from the team that started against Swindon Town on Tuesday Night is Rory Donnelly starting ahead of Cody McDonald, we are all aware that a fully fit Cody McDonald will score fifteen goals or more for Gillingham This Season, as was the case in 2013 / 2014 and 2014 / 2015, bur after that sensational strike on Tuesday Night, I think Rory Donnelly deserves the chance to start, Another player who would start is Jamie O'Hara, but Justin Edinburgh has spoken about a lack of pre-season for Jamie O'Hara this summer, so I think Jamie O'Hara will make substitute appearances until he is fit enough to start.

I will be leaving at 8AM for Scunthorpe United tomorrow morning, and I would be pleased with a point, and delighted with a win, as long as Gillingham avoid defeat tomorrow I will be happy - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!

Well this is proving to be a bit of a thumping, only one game but still hurts, bit like saying I only got one black eye in the fight I lost, think it shows where we are , and thats a middle of the table team. Time to go to "work" Mr Glasgow.

An awful result, and performance. All the goals look preventable, and it is a concern that Nelson has made two more howlers. He seems to be lacking confidence. We were missing players, but still the goals were our own downfall.Hopefully this is just a bad day at the office.

Time to bring in Hadler against Watford , Nelson is past his "use by " date , so what the hell, throw the kid in the deep end and lets see if he sinks or swims, September is just around the corner with some "nasty games" coming up.
