[ 28 Feb 15 ] Gills v Barnsley Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Sun Feb 22, 2015 3:00 pm

Barnsley have won the last 4 ties against the Gills winning 3 of them by 3 goals. The Gills last won in August 2001, also by 3 goals.

Barnsley won 1-0 at Scunthorpe on Tuesday ending a run of 7 straight losses on the road, scoring 3 and conceding 16 in the process.

Barnsley have won their last 2 league games keeping clean sheets in both. They have had 8 overall whilst the Gills have had 5.

Along with Crawley, Barnsley have scored the fewest goals away in the league this season hitting the net 13 times in 16 games.

A win for the Gills would see their 5th straight home win - the first time we had managed it since May 2000.

It`s great to be back at home, and this will be my first match since Justin Edinburgh was appointed.Confidence is still high with us unbeaten in 8 games, and we have been scoring freely with us scoring in 21 successive games.Barnsley were in poor form and sacked Danny Wilson, but have had two wins since then, and won their first away game in the League since November last night. They have appointed Lee Johnson today from Oldham so their players will be up for the game.Hopefully they do not employ the same tactics that his Oldham side played a few weeks back.

I think Gillingham will line up as follows.......................

----------------------------------Nelson--------------------------------------
Hoyte----------------Egan-------------------Ehmer-----------------Garmston
-------------------------------Hessenthaler-----------------------------------
------------Galbraith-----------------------------------Loft-------------------
-----------------------------------Dack----------------------------------------
--------------------McDonald--------------Marquis----------------------------

Subs: G.Morris (GK), Legge, Martin, Pritchard, McGlashan, Dickenson, Norris

Same Team, and with Amine Linganzi and Aaron Morris back to full fitness it is nice to have almost a full squad fully fit and available for selection again.

We didn't put up a great fight today, conditions played a part but a draw would have been a fair result. Marquis was a handful today, more potent than Dack I feel. McGlashan didn't have quite the game we have come to expect and our only shot on target came late in the match. Going unbeaten in such a tough month would be unthinkable given the teams we played and with Barnsley coming with a new manager having just won their last 2 with a clean sheet, the result was inevitable. Perhaps it isthey who will be making a late charge up the table. I guess a scoring run not seen for 45 years and a home winning streak that would last have been seen in the marvellous 1999/2000 season, it was always going to end sooner.

On to the ref! 4 games in a row now we seem to get a clueless referee. We won 3 of those so it didn't cost us but how much more must we have? In the first half the ball was played forward by them and Egan shielded the ball out for....a corner! In the second half the keeper came charging out of goal and his momentum saw him crash into Cody....a free kick to them! Some decisions were baffling at best and yet again every little nick was a foul to them yet we needed to spill blood to get a good decision although there were a couple which the ref seemed to give our way to even it up. If you can't get simple important decisions like that right there really is no hope!

The funniest decision was when he gave us a corner towards the end which clearly came from a gills player. The whole of the RE were singing, 'you don't know what you're Doug's even though it was good for us!!

I thought it was a scrappy game, and we didn`t perform well.Quite a few players were off their game and the weather was poor for both Teams.I was expecting a 0-0 draw as there wasn`t many chances in the game.Their goal came when Garmston was off the pitch injured and it look ages for Martin to be subbed on because he didn`t have his shirt.Nelson could only push a shot out to a Barnsley player and they scored the rebound.Nelson did stop it from being 2-0 later in the second half as he got a finger to a great strike. We didn`t really have many chances, but there was some good pressure from us in stoppage time time and a couple of corners, but we couldn`t score.I was hoping Nelson would go up for the corner as you could see him itching to go up and Dack was calling him up.I see no harm in the 94th minute as it causes pandemonium in their box.

Like most weeks the officials were really poor, and some of their decisions were baffling.Swindon away next and hopefully we can get back to scoring ways as yesterday was the first time in 21 games that we didn`t score.

Playing at home.

44% possession.

1 shot on target.

A very poor day at the office.

The last 2 games (Yeovil, Barnsley) the midfield are not getting forward as fast to support the attacks (as per Go4 matches) hopefully this is due to the players underperforming and not JE tactics.

Time to de fume the managers office, Glasgows got the bug Taylor left behind . After only a few weeks in Taylors old office, he has caught it, the lets stop them from scoring and then we will score in the 86th minute disease, think he has been watching to much West Ham football........IT DOESN'T WORK.
