Very interesting thanks, no pictures of the cricket pitch along the end of the High Street, that where I saw Fiery Freddie Truman bowl against Kent, way way back in the early 60's, I guess.
if I remember rightly an all rounder called Lidbit hit a century for Kent ,and although I was not there the next day I read he bowled around 10 overs, taking three wickets for like 25 runs, a true Man of Kent or Kentish Man was that guy.

That cricket pitch 1066 , where Kent used to play at least a game a season , is now the start of the Great Lines Heritage Park , which runs all the way to the war memorial . Not like in our day when the Lines started adjacent to Paget Street and above Sally Port Gardens

I played cricket and hockey there many times, on the Garrison grounds and also Nore Command, which were fantastic pitches. The Garrison cricket square became a minefield towards the end which is why Kent stopped playing there. I think Colin Cowdry got his arm broken in one of the last matches although I’m not a hundred percent sure if that’s true.
