ROONEY IS ENGLAND CAPTAIN

Presumably for his proven qualities as a leader of men, an articulate advocate of on-field standards and a role model for younger players.

Should have got the captaincy a long time ago. Hardest working player in the England squad. Won't see any other England forward tracking back like he does. Should be the first name on the team sheet.

Most of the others fall into two categories:
1) Far too young, he is only earning his second cap tonight after all
2) Can't really use him anymore after what happened

Good job Rooney isn't injured then!

So got the job by default then. I fear it may go to his head and make him too hyped which would probably lead to a red card. Hope I'm wrong!

He says he has grown up and is different now. But then if he found himself getting wound up by San Marino and getting sent off, he really should deserve to play at the highest level! Having said that he is the only decent striker we seem to have at the moment but not sure he is captain material.

Don't particularly enjoy seeing a so called top flight team beat up on a minnow, especialy one where the entire country's population would fit into Wembley Stadium 3 times, but I sure hope we bang a hat full past them this afternoon and England show us some of the young guns who will be available for the next World Cup. Of course anyone who bets against Brazil or Argentina winning that tourney must have plenty of money to waste.. Go England big win today, 7 -0 would be nice.

Im not keen on how the armband is passed around like a bag of sweets these days,I think it takes away that great feeling of being Captain.Rooney was Captain tonight and did an ok job,I think Hart could be longterm Captain once Gerrard retires from England.

Wouldn't want a keeper as captain personally. I think Hodgson is trying to find out who can play the way he wants the team to play, so 5 will do me!

Always thought the centre half should be the captain, of course I still beleive we should be playing a 2-3-5 formation with two wingers who can rip the heart out of any defender, and a big man in the centre with the number 9 on his back.
